Hans Neuner was born in the Austrian region of Tyrol. The son and grandson of cooks, from a very young age he was engaged in the professional kitchen.

Chef Hans Neuner has experienced an extraordinary success in Portugal, making his kitchen of the Ocean restaurant at Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa one of the most acclaimed in the country.

 

‘The youngest chef to bear the two stars of
Red Guide in Portugal.’

ONE OF THE MOST important moments of his career was the period he worked at the restaurant of the Adlon Hotel in Berlin, where he was a disciple of chef Karlheinz Hauser.  During the nine years he was at the Adlon, where he demonstrated all his talent for cooking, Hans also had the opportunity to work at Tristan Restaurant in Mallorca, Spain (two Michelin stars), before becoming chef-de-cuisine at the Seven Seas restaurant in Hamburg (one Michelin star).

 

In 2007 he was invited to head up the kitchen of the Ocean restaurant at Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa, in the Algarve. Since then, his dream was to win a Michelin star, using his own methods and techniques, recruiting and leading his own team. Only two years later, in 2009, Hans embodies the "Michelin dream", winning his first star, and seeing his passion for local produce combined with a technical precision and also a good dose of creativity, finally rewarded.

 

In November 2011 Michelin awards him the second star. A surprise, but only for those who do not follow the persistence and determination of Hans and his team´s work: the second and youngest chef to bear the two stars of "Red Guide" in Portugal. This second Michelin star - which literally means "excellent table, worth a detour" - is recognition of the hard work and consistency of the staff at the Ocean.

 

It is recognition, too, of the quality and maturity of the haute cuisine that is practiced today in Portugal: the recognition of the quality of domestic products, flavours and the growing influence of the Portuguese cuisine in the world.
